Grand Sumo Tournament Tour with a Licenced Guide [Chair Seat B] January 2026

PT033BZ25

Join us for Guided Tours to the January 2026 Grand Sumo Tournament.
Watching a sumo match offers a rare opportunity to experience traditional Japanese culture up close. From your seat inside the arena, you’ll feel the tension rise as wrestlers prepare to enter the ring, and witness the explosive clashes and dramatic twists that define this ancient martial art.
The Kokugikan arena itself is steeped in tradition, featuring uniquely Japanese architecture, ceremonial clothing, and symbolic decorations. Our multilingual guides will be there to explain the customs and rituals, helping you fully appreciate the depth and excitement of sumo.

HIGHLIGHT

Your guide will escort you to your reserved seat and provide clear, engaging explanations throughout your visit.
During the tour of the Kokugikan and the Sumo Museum, you'll gain insight into Japan’s unique architecture, traditional clothing, and etiquette.
The guide will explain the structure of professional sumo—including the different divisions, early matches, and the roles of the referee (gyoji) and announcer (yobidashi), as well as the meaning behind their traditional attire.
You’ll also learn about the rankings of sumo wrestlers, from yokozuna and ozeki to sanyaku and makuuchi competitors.
With detailed commentary on winning techniques (kimarite) and match highlights, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for this powerful and elegant sport.
