WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
1 Inokuma Genichiro Modern Art Museum
A world-renowned artist associated with Marugame City. Famous for designing Mitsukoshi's wrapping paper "Hana Hiraku." The museum permanently exhibits approximately 20,000 works donated by Inokuma himself.
The museum's architecture was designed by Yoshio Taniguchi, one of Japan's leading architects. Inokuma, who had known Taniguchi well since childhood, entrusted him with the design due to his reliability.
2 Marugame Castle
The iconic Marugame Castle, with a history of over 400 years, is one of the 12 remaining wooden castles in Japan.
The stone walls rising from the inner moat to the keep display a unique and beautiful curve known as the "fan slope." This three-tiered, three-story wooden keep is designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
3 Kotohiki Park
Kotohiki Park, a scenic spot included in the Setonaikai National Park.
Within the park lies the sand art of the "Kan'ei Tsuho" coin, and Ariake Beach, stretching 2 km with white sand and green pine trees, offers stunning views from the summit of Mount Kotohiki.
It is also famous for the opening scene of Zenigata Heiji.
4 Chichibugahama
In 2018, ranked first nationwide in Jalan's "Sunset Scenic Spots Ranking."
In the past, due to its geographical location, Chichibugahama was littered with garbage carried by the Seto Inland Sea. One day, a large-scale reclamation plan emerged, aiming to attract factories to the area. In response, local residents began a “modest resistance” by cleaning up the beach. Feeling sadness, doubt, and even anger, they vowed to protect Chichibugahama in their own way.
Local fishermen and people from various professions in the area picked up trash on sunny days, rainy days, and snowy days. Their strong determination resonated with many people, and with changing times, the reclamation plan was canceled. This led to the preservation of the Chichibugahama we see today.
